Installation for the WWPP Community: This is an expandable outline. NewText

1.) A relatively new PC computer running Windows 98 or newer. Or an Apple Macintosh running Mac OSX 10.1 or newer. You can also run Radio on a classic version of a Macintosh computer running Mac OS 7.5 through 9.2.

2.) Internet explorer 5 or later.

3.) Radio Userland 8.0.8 or newer.

You need to Download Radio Userland. from the Userland Company.

It is very important to do a complete install of Radio Userland. We have to get this right first. Radio Userland and your Browser must both be running.

You will fill out the required information in your web browser when Radio Userland first starts up. Initially you will have a weblog on weblogs.com. That is ok, we will change it later.

Make sure you update your Radio.root. Link -> Update Radio.root

You must set some prefrences!

This is a link -> to all of your prefrences.

This is a link -> to User Identity. Fill out all three and press "Submit".

This is a link -> Outgoing (SMTP) Mail server. This should be everything after the "@" sign in your email address. For example, iJak@mac.com, I would use "mac.com". Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Mail me my password. This is your email address. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Upstreaming. The first check box should be checked. Not the second. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Enable the WYSIWYG editing tool? This should be checked. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Categories. This must be checked. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> RSS Configuration. You are the Managing Editor and the Webmaster. The Language should be set to "English". Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Participate in the Weblogs.Com community? This should be checked. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Three buttons or one? This is your preference, but I use three buttons. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Comments. The check box should be enabled. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> Item-level Title and Link? Both of these must be checked. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> XML-RPC and SOAP in Radio. Only the first checkbox should be checked. Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

This is a link -> RSS enclosures. All 3 check boxes should be checked. The start downloading should be "1", and the stop downloading should be "4". Always press "Submit" if you make any changes.

Now you need to create your outline and subscribe to some xml feeds.

Your Radio program will communicate with other radio programs in our group. In order for that to happen we need to create an instant outline. To do that, you need to go to the Radio program and create your outline. It need not be more than "dummy text" for now.

You also need to subscribe to a couple news feeds. Look in the right column of this page for the little icons that look like this picture. Click on at least two of those small cups and subscribe to their feed. It will take a little while for this information to upstream and then have the program find it on the web, so do not worry about them after you have subscribed. Just move on with another task.

4.) doMug Macro

Right Click (PC), Control Click (Mac), and save target to disk. Click here -> Download doMug Macro.

The target folder for this file is. ...

In the applications folder on your Hard Disk, in your Radio Userland Folder, In your Macros folder.

5.) Join our WWPP Radio Community Server.

With Radio running click on this link -> Change Community Server.

Enter the domain name of our RCS, followed by /RPC2, in the Server URL field.

http://www.wwpp.org:8080/RPC2

Enter any password you want to use for this account, then enter that password again, and click the Change Community Server button.

After a few seconds, your browser will load Radio's home page.

Note that the links in the Cloud Links section of your desktop website home page now link to pages on your Community Server. Any pages you publish will now upstream to your new community. (Special note. This will take a little while, while all your pages are upstreamed to the new RCS server.

We have two routes to take here. The second route installs the activeRenderer.root for active outlines, like this instruction page. The second route does not. ... 6A and 7A install the activeRenderer, 6B and 7B do not.

6.A and 7.A) With the ActiveRenderer.root

Quit Radio Userland. So that the program is no longer running.

Right Click (PC), Control Click (Mac), and save target to disk. Click here ->Download ActiveRenderer.root.

In the applications folder on your Hard Disk, in your Radio Userland Folder, In your Tools folder.

Restart Radio Userland. Radio will automaticaly start the activeRenderer.root.

what will happen first is that you will be bounced to a web page that asks you to register the activeRender.root. Go ahead and register the activeRenderer, (it costs nothing). You will need to gather the registration number from your return email in a minute or so. ...

Enter your registration number and save. You will recieve a confirmation of registration in the web window. Click on the Prefrences in that web window.

Now we have to set two preferences. The first is here. Check the box and push the "Save" button.

You will be bounced to this page. Make sure both check boxes are checked, then push the "Save" button.

7.A) WWPP activeRenderer 1.0.1.

In the applications folder on your Hard Disk, in your Radio Userland Folder, In your Themes folder.

Make sure you save this as a file and not as "Text."

6.B and 7.B) Without the ActiveRenderer.root

Cool! ... There is no 6.B for us. ... Move on to 7.B.

7.B) wwppfNonAR 1.0.1 theme. Right Click (PC), Control Click (Mac), and save target to disk. Click here -> Download our wwppfNonAR 1.0.1 theme.

In the applications folder on your Hard Disk, in your Radio Userland Folder, In your Themes folder.

8.) Activating the new WWPP theme.

With both, Radio and your browser running just click here -> Themes.

Select your WWPP theme. You should only have one choice or the other. I have two just to show you what they would look like. Click the selected theme's radio button and then push the "Apply Theme" button.

You will be asked to verify your choice of changing themes. Push the "Yes" button.

If your site now contains these Macro Errors on the right side of the template, it is because the macro is looking for two files that are not yet created. In order to fix the first Macro error, you need to go to the Radio program and create your outline.

In order to fix the second macro, look in the right column of this page for the little icons that look like this picture. Click on at least two of those small cups and subscribe to their feed. It will take a little while for this information to upstream and then have the program find it on the web, so do not worry about them after you have subscribed. Just move on with another task.

9.) A picture of yourself.

The picture needs to be cropped and resized to 115 pixels high and 90 pixels wide.

This picture should be saved as "ownerPicture.jpg" (without the quotes) Your picture will replace this picture on your website.
You will notice that this picture does not have drop shadows. There is a drop shadow frame that your picture will fit into. It is a certain size. That is why there is a picture requirment as to height and width.

You need to replace the current "ownerPicture.jpg" with your own "ownerPicture.jpg" on your Hard Disk, in the applications folder, in your Radio Userland Folder, In your WWW folder, in your "Images" folder.

10.) Creating a New Category

With Radio and your internet browser running, click on this link -> New Category.

You should pick a name for your category. You should also create a short description of what your category is about. Set the two check boxes to active. Do not set a theme, the theme will then default to your current WWPP theme. Then submit.

11.) Quicktime media software.

This is necessary to see video and to easily create video for the web. It is not necessary for the initial installation, but it is necessary for our projects. Download Quicktime.
