About Mary
I am a person passionate about learning. My mission is: To live my values with passion and commitment, thereby building a world-wide capacity for positive learning and honorable action.
I learned some things about healthcare as a mother who had unexpected medical outcome with my first child's birth, with the experiences of a father dying at age 54 with a heart attack, a great aunt living with congestive heart failure, a mother-in-law suffering with a rare lung cancer and others close to me I observe living with chronic conditions. Over the last 20 years, I have had the privilege of working in the education field with at-risk children and families developing prevention services, working with unemployed mothers and fathers on welfare to make the transition into the workforce, partnering with patients in a secured psychiatric facilities as they rebuild their lives and rejoin the larger community.
For the last 6+ years, I have worked at PeaceHealth, a mission driven healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest on a variety of regional and system-wide initiatives to improve the healthcare experiences of patients and families. On the side, I have been a part of my community in the schools, and other non-profit service sectors to bring the diversity and assets of the community together to create great opportunities. Throughout these pursuits, I have embraced continuous quality improvement for in its best forms, its tenets and pursuit is all about learning in a systematic way.
I have been blessed by a supportive husband, Michael and two wonderful daughters, Jenny and Jessie. I could not do this work without their wise counsel and patience with my passion about the work of transformation across a community.
I am now in Whatcom County working as the Project Manager for Pursuing Perfection. This is a unique community of people who collaborate together against all odds. They are open to new ideas and don't shy from conflict and dialogue---necessary experiences when knitting together a system across a community with the patient at the center. I believe if you watch closely you will see the miracle unfold because of the relationships, passion and commitment that many - especially patients - bring to this endeavor.
The story of Pursuing Perfection is about many- not a few...those of us with the opportunity to share the stories...do so on behalf of a community.
