Pursuing Perfection

Marc's Weblog

wedgeNotes from Marc Pierson before you read this proposal by David Bohm and others:
wedgeThis is proposal is kind of long and kind of technical and abstract. You may not like it or finish it. You may want to read at least the last section on dialogue in existing organizations.
wedgeDialogue itself is simple (if you join a group with some experience), immediately rewarding, and profoundly eye opening. You can read about it and/or just do it. In either case if you want to join our dialogue group in Whatcom County--if you are in healthcare or you are a patient or you are in a patient's support system--contact Lori Nichols (LNichols@hinet.org) for dates and times. The meetings are usually every other Wednesday from 1-3 PM.
wedgeHere is an explaination for the urgency that I feel for dialogue. In business, especially in health care, we seem to insist on a simplification of behavior and communication that is not comensurate with the challenges inherent in the enterprise of providing care to patients across organizational boundaries. It seems to me that there is actually peer pressure toward such a systematic over simplification. I hope that this behavior can be explored. It seems to me that communication and understanding need to be much deeper than they are now.

wedgeWe are proposing a kind of collective inquiry not only into the content of what each of us say, think and feel but also into the underlying motivations, assumptions and beliefs that lead us to so do.
wedgeHowever, we feel that it is important that its meaning and background be understood.
