My random comments and collections on complex adaptive systems as they relate to healthcare. System: interconnected parts. Complex: too many parts and relationships for easy prediction. Adaptive: The parts can make their own choices, and these autonomous choices make the system evolve. Agreeded upon simple rules can move the system toward goals.

Complex Adaptive Systems, a definition.

Health care is a complex apaptive system.  The outcome of CASs is shaped by the simple rules that the agents follow. The simple rules are the most important feature of any complex system.

Here is a nice definition of CAS.
