Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, MBA, Named Head of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
An excerpt from the Wharton Health Care Association Alumni web.
"A native of Seattle, Washington, Risa began her studies at the University of Washington. She transferred to the State University of New York at Stony Brook and was admitted to Harvard Medical School after her junior year of college. Upon completion of her medical degree at Harvard, Risa did her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was appointed assistant professor in the Section of General Internal Medicine at Penn in 1986, associate professor in 1992 and the Sylvan Eisman Professor of Medicine in 1997.
In speaking of her new position, Risa said that RWJF, which distributes more than $500 million in grants and contracts each year, will continue to focus on public health and health care. It will continue to make grants to prevent smoking and substance abuse, support projects to increase coverage for the uninsured, deal with issues involving long-term health care and improve care for terminally ill people. RWJF selected Risa in part because of her tremendous vision and passion that will ensure that these goals will be met in the years to come."
